Tower Hamlets Council in partnership with Transport for London undertook improvements to the highway and footpath network in the borough. This work usually involves York stone paving, varied carriageway construction as well as road design revisions and allied traffic management measures.

A large amount of this work was done in the Aldgate Area, a part of the Borough with significant historical interest close to the Tower of London.
